Congrats Martin on your 108 murders
THE EDITOR: I am writing to congratulate the Minister of National Security on his achievement of 108 murders thus far for the year 2005. As a true leader, Mr Joseph will no doubt seek to pass the kudos on to the policemen under his charge. But any manager knows that without the proper leadership, such great improvements in the rate of kidnappings, murders and rapes cannot be attained. This astute leadership was reflected in the statements of the Commissioner of Police recently, when he blamed society for all the crime. It was reflected in the statement of Junior Minister, Fitzgerald Hinds, who wanted to know if we expected the minister to go out and fight crime for himself.
It was reflected in the resignation of the head of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad when he cited the diversion of resources away from the AKS to other sections of the police service. Such great work should not go unrewarded! Both ministers as well as the Commissioner should be given a well deserved vacation — the longer the better! I would expect that they would all say that there is a lot more to be done and that we haven’t seen anything yet! As much as I would be tempted to see just how high the crime rate can go, I strongly believe that these managers be rewarded quickly before they drop with exhaustion!
