Roberts: ‘ARG pitch needs more cricket’
ST JOHN’S: The man in charge of the preparation of the pitch for the fourth and final Digicel Test match between the West Indies and South Africa has argued that more cricket needs to be played on the surface in order for it to improve. The pitch has come in for continued criticism because of its placid nature with eight centuries, including a triple by Chris Gayle, being scored on the wicket during the match which ended in a tame draw yesterday. This comes after Brian Lara hit a world record 400 not out last year to follow up his 375 in 1994. Andy Roberts, the ex-West Indies fast bowler who supervises the pitch preparation, said the Antigua Recreation Ground was overused by other events and not enough cricket was being played there.
