Constructive change needed in TT
THE EDITOR: I must say I am happy to learn that Police Commissioner Mr Trevor Paul realises that the public has lost confidence in the police force. At least someone in authority knows that something needs to be done to make the people of Trinidad and Tobago feel safe and secure again. If Minister Martin Joseph believes crime is not rampant as Trinidadians are making it out to be then why are the "FBI" of the USA coming to train personnel in the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and donating equipment to us. We as a richly blessed country, in terms of natural resources should not have to call in foreign personnel to deal with the crime situation. In the first place, the situation has not been addressed properly, and that is why it is at this stage. The only assistance we should need is advice and tips on crime fighting. On another note, the general public needs to realise that the relevant authorities cannot solve every problem or do everything. They require your support. If you as an individual fail to report important matters that could assist in the apprehension of a criminal then you are endangering yourself and the public. Criminals today realise that some of the members of the police force are not doing their jobs efficiently and effectively and they are getting away with both minor and major criminal activities. So I am appealing to you the public to try and assist the police and the other authorities and the police force to smarten up. There are rewards being given for information and let’s make TT safe and secure once again. God bless! TRESHMA HARNARINE
