Great tax assistance service
THE EDITOR: On Monday April 25, 2005, I walked through the doors of the main office for taxpayers’ assistance. The time was around 11.10 am when I collected my number slip and sat down to wait. I looked around and saw people standing. Within the next five minutes a woman guided two young people in putting new chairs in place to accommodate the standing taxpayers. The counter clerks were professionally efficient, it was admirable. Newspapers were placed to read while you waited. I heard a person next to me saying, “Oh gosh, you mean I have to stay here all day, I have to go to work yuh know.”
It was getting close to the lunch hour and another tax officer called out about six numbers, one being my number and the other for the person who had began to worry about her time away from work. We were sent to another section of the building to get tax assistance. At 12.15 pm, I was out of the taxpayers’ office. Well this is customer service at its best and I hope that other taxpayers noticing would practise the examples in their workplaces both private and government. Keep up the great service, you guys at the Taxpayers’ Assistance Office on Queen Street, Port-of-Spain.
