THE Trinidad and Tobago World Cup football trust got a $1,684,921 boost from Government. Sports Minister Roger Boynes handed over the cheque to Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation president Oliver Camps at the federation’s headquarters, Dundonald Street, on Friday. After getting the cheque, camps said: “I must say we are greatly appreciative of this provision made to us by the Ministry of Sport following several discussions with Minister Boynes over the months.
“It will no doubt be well utilised in our efforts to get to the next World Cup and I can assure you that with all the assistance being provided otherwise, especially from Mr Jack Warner and our other sponsors TSTT, KFC, Busta, this latest sum will be a good addition to the package.” Boynes also said his government felt the time was appropriate to assist the TTFF with the “Warriors” locked in final round battle for 2006 World qualification. He said, “we feel now more than ever that this type of funding is needed and we are asking corporate Trinidad and Tobago to come on board as well.” Minister Boynes said the TTFF have requested $18 million, and his ministry have finalised the funding for the total development of football, and expects the funds to be released.
