Jacobs leads Antigua against Pakistanis
ST JOHN’S: Ridley Jacobs has been named the captain of the Antigua and Barbuda line-up which will take on the Pakistanis in a warm-up match in Antigua today. The 15-man squad consists mostly of young players and includes Austin Richards Jr and Amwaa Prince, two aggressive opening batsmen. Today’s match will be Pakistan’s only practice match of the entire tour. The three-match one-day series starts on Wednesday in St Vincent, followed by a weekend double-header in St Lucia. The Test series starts in Barbados on May 26. Carl Simon, a fast-medium pacer from Leeward Islands, was delighted to be included. "I was very, very excited to come back and play against Pakistanis," he told reporters on Thursday. "It is a great opportunity to play against a top team in the world like Pakistan and I’m looking forward to that game (today). I’m in very good shape. I’ve played one game since I was away. I’ve been doing a lot of exercise and running." Simon took 34 wickets at 25 runs apiece for Leewards, who finished second in the Carib Beer Series. Squad: Ridley Jacobs (capt), Sylvester Joseph, Austin Richards, Wilden Cornwall, Kerry Jeremy, Kerry Mentore, Omari Banks, Ricky Christopher, Carl Simon, Ian Tittle, Gavette Hughes, Chad Hampson, Amwaa Prince, Kuma Leon Rodney, Winston Benjamin.
