Prepare for rainy season
THE EDITOR: Yes, yet another rainy season is upon us. In fact this rainy season has started much earlier as reported. May 5 was the start of the 2005 rainy season. So what can citizens expect this rainy season? Will we see the same annual deluge with citizens being flooded out once more of their homes? Monday May 16, 2005, after heavy rains in downtown Port-of-Spain, the capital city is flooded out once more. How sad! Is this what we have to put up with for the next five months? Have the city officials been aware of this yearly problem?
Why do the city officials wait till the start of the rainy season before taking action? As citizens I am urging you to get prepared. This time of year rainfall is heavier than usual. Additionally, June 1 will be the start of the hurricane season in the Caribbean. So if you are planning any outdoor activity from June 1 onwards be prepared. Also there is still time to do any major or minor repairs around the home, for instance securing your roof, cleaning all waterways and pathways, canals and drains. Don’t be caught off guard this rainy season. Whatever you have to do ensure it’s done early before the rains come.
