Change the management to fight crime

THE EDITOR: For the past two years the underworld here in Trinidad has improved considerably, and shows great professionalism in its daily escapades. These criminal professionals have found now that everything is working in their favour with the kind of atmosphere that is suited for their criminal activities without any disturbance while fulfilling their criminal endeavours with kidnappings, and revenge murders. In the near future we won’t be seeing “Roll on, Roll off” but we will be seeing, “Jump on, Jump off” horses instead of cars, this would be the order of the day. We would be like Texas in Trinidad. About four weeks ago a gunman ran another man across the Brian Lara Promenade.

If the assailant had a horse it would have been easier to catch up with his victim, and of course it would have been like a Hollywood western if his victim also had a horse to make a hasty retreat. We are seeing so many murders and kidnappings in this country that it is becoming second nature, and no serious effort is made to change this disturbing situation that has this country afraid and under siege. Since the authorities seem to know where the criminals are, and even know the names of the gangs then something should be done to stop the criminal onslaught in this nation. It is shameful to see that Trinidad has found itself rated fifth in the world of criminal behaviour in murders and kidnappings, what a shame! The inhabitants of this country, especially certain businessmen are all living in fear because they do not know who is next.

There is no love and respect that existed in this country years ago with the new kind of mentality of certain people who don’t even know their purpose on this earth. There are plans afoot for winning the next general elections, but are there also plans to eradicate poverty in this rich country while trying to make people secure especially with the high prices in food stuffs, and also the escalation in crime? Winning the election is one part of the story, but their performance leaves a lot to be desired.

If a company gives a person a mandate to manage an industry, and he fails causing the company to be a failure losing prestige and money then the company would have to make alternative arrangements while finding a progressive manager to revive the business and make it successful. It is left to be seen what is going to happen in this country named Trinidad, the Land of the Humming Bird. Last Thursday April 21 proves that Trinidad is truly becoming like the wild, wild west with the murder on the Brian Lara Promenade where an innocent woman going about her business was also shot. What a great shame! What is there to be done to alleviate the toll of  murders in this country? The people must decide.
