$80,000 at stake in weekend Sport Festival

OVER $80,000 in prizes will be at stake at this year’s 12th edition of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs-sponsored Sport Festival.

This festival which embraces youths under-20 with the theme "Release that Energy Now — the Energy, the Passion, the Game," is scheduled for Saturday at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sport Arena, Tacarigua and the Eddie Hart ground.

Action will be in several sporting disciplines including basketball, netball, football, cricket, hockey and tagby, starting 6 am. Table tennis has been added to the list of sporting disciplines along with activities for special olympians.

This year’s festival has greater significance, since the United Nations have designated 2005 as the International Year of Physical Education and Sport.

Sport Minister Roger Boynes will tell more about the festival at a news conference fixed for tomorrow at his offices, Abercromby Street, set to begin at 2 pm.
