Barrackpore win PowerGen U-14 cricket title


Barrackpore Senior Secondary Comprehensive added a second PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League national title when they whipped Waterloo High School in the islandwide under 14 final contested at the Inshan Ali Park, Preysal last Friday.


Coached by Shal Ramkissoon, Barrackpore captured the Championship Division national league crown when they edged out Princes Town Senior Comprehe-nsive in the grand final at the PowerGen Penal Sports ground last month.


And then their youngsters proved that they have the talented nursery to fill the breach when their seniors move on. National under 15 opener Marlon Brisceno led the way for Barrackpore with a polished 45 as his team mustered 106. He slammed five fours Zephron Richards was Waterloo’s most successful bowler with three wickets for 17 runs.


Nishell Boodhai and Hakeem Baksh scalped two wickets each. Waterloo High was skittled out for 81 with Hakeem Baksh (18) and Qadir Shah (13) the only batsmen to offer resistance.


Off-spinner Brijesh Nanan was the chief wrecker with three wickets for 11 while fellow off-spinner Vikash Rampersad claimed two wickets for eight runs and leftarm orthodox spinner Vashist Ramlakhan snapped up two wickets for nine to give their team a comfortable 25-run victory.
