Chanders, Collymore lead Windies’ stats
KINGSTON: Captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brian Lara and Corey Collymore led the West Indies individual statistics during the Digicel two-match Test series that ended Tuesday morning with a series-equalising win in the second Test for Pakistan at Sabina Park. Chanderpaul topped the batting averages with a solid 91, although Lara gathered the most runs, a series–best 331 for an 82.75 average. Chanderpaul’s aggregate was 273. Wavell Hinds was next in the averages, compiling 162 runs at an average of 40.5. Barbadian pacers Fidel Edwards and Collymore registered the best statistics for bowling. Edwards claimed six wickets in his one Test appearance at good average of 6.33 runs apiece, while Collymore was by far the top wicket–taker for the Windies, capturing 15 wickets at 15.60.
Opening batsmen Devon Smith (25.75) and Chris Gayle (25.50) had moderate averages as did No 3 batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan, who gathered only 70 runs in his four innings for an average of 17.50. Hard-hitting Shahid Afridi was the only Pakistan batsman with over 200 runs, he compiled 214 for a 53.50 average, while his captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who missed the first Test on a suspension, shows an average of 167 runs from his two innings, that included an unbeaten 117 in the second Test. Pacer Shabbir Mohammed (13) and leg-spinner Danesh Kaneria (11) were the chief wicket-takers for Pakistan, with Shabbir, who was reported by the umpires in the first test for a suspected illegal bowling action, boasting the best average of 19.61.
