Jamaicans look for WICB candidate

President Jackie Hendriks was expected to meet with several persons late on Monday to determine who would be put forward by the JCA for the post, which will be vacated by Teddy Griffith next month.

"President Jackie Hendriks will be talking to some people this evening," Brian Breese, the JCA’s Chief Executive Officer, told CMC Sports Monday. "Maybe after that there may be a nomination."

Several names have been bandied around as possible nominees from the Jamaica end but none have yet been confirmed. Hendriks’ name had also surfaced as well as that of former president Pat Rousseau, who served in the top WICB post between 1996 and 2001.

Barbados has been the only regional territory to date which has put forward a nominee in the form of retired banker KHL Tony Marshall. Marshall, who also led the Barbados Cricket Association between 1996-1999, is a former WICB director and is a current member of their marketing committee.

Other names mentioned as possible candidates have been former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd along with Trinidadian Ken Gordon and Deryck Murray.

The vacuum at the top of West Indies cricket was created last week when Griffith revealed he would not stand for re-election at the Annual General Meeting in St Maarten next month.
