Guyana nominate Lloyd for WI president

GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Guyana’s Cricket Board announced yesterday they would nominate legendary former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd for president of the West Indies Cricket Board.

The Guyana board said it recognised Lloyd’s "wide and varied experience" and promised "to nominate him to the post and to seek the support of the other territories."

The announcement came a day after the West Indies Cricket Board delayed their annual meeting to give the various island boards more time to submit nominations for the posts of president and vice president.

The board received no nominations for either post by Thursday’s deadline, prompting it to postpone the meeting from July 17 to August 7.

Nominations must be submitted 30 days before the meeting. Lloyd, who was captain during the West Indies’ glory days of the 1970s and 1980s, announced Wednesday that he wanted the job.

Lloyd, a native of Guyana, was West Indies manager between 1997 and 1999.

Current board president Teddy Griffith will not seek re-election at the meeting in St Maarten.
