Barrackpore to sweep PowerGen awards


BARRACKPORE Secondary are set to receive all the major awards at the annual PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League. The awards ceremony will be held at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre from 5 pm today .


The Shal Ramkissoon-coached school teams dominated the 2005 South-Central Zonal, winning the Under-13, Under-14, Under-16 and Senior Division titles.


And Barrackpore went on to capture the National title edging out Princes Town by a one-wicket margin in the closely-fought two-innings match contested at the PowerGen Sports Club ground, Syne Village, Penal.


In addition, Barrackpore copped the national Under 14 title.Princes Town won the InterCol title, also with a thrilling one-wicket victory over perennial champions Presentation College, Chaguanas in the final played under floodlights at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.


Presentation (Chaguanas) took the SSCL "Super Sixes" title, beating Princes Town in the opening tournament of the season with national under-17 captain Kavesh Kantasingh getting the "Man of the Match" award in the final played at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain.


Barrackpore captain Jason Mohammed was one of the most outstanding schoolboy cricketers during the season and is highly favoured to cop the "Secondary Schools Cricketer of the Year" award.
