Rangers win third straight

SUPERSTAR RANGERS captured their third straight win in the Sportworld Super League competition after mauling Stokely Vale FC 6-2 in the first match of yesterday’s third round double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Curtis Job put the Tobago-based squad in front after four minutes but Rangers responded in convincing fashion, with a beaver-trick from Akudu Goodridge in the 29th, 59th, 75th and 87th minutes, while Colin Roberts (45th) and Todd Ryan (62nd) added one apiece. Warren Phillip got a late strike in the 83rd, but it was much too late for Stokely Vale.

In the other match at Mucurapo, PLIPDECO Caroni FC moved to second spot after a 2-1 triumph against M&M Harvard. Kyle Cupid’s 24th minute opener was cancelled out by Dean Pacheco’s reply two minutes later, but Alvin Xavier notched the winner in the 42nd. Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix, who led the table entering yesterday’s round, were no match for Couva Players United at the Dwight Yorke Stadium. The Central lads whipped the Tobago outfit 3-0 with Anson Thomas (ninth), Keith Williams (23rd) and Kwame Knights (35th) on target.

Maraval Youth Academy twice failed to hold on to one-goal leads as they were held 2-2 by Crab Connection at the Trinity College Ground, Moka, Maraval. Shaton Olivierre opened the scoring for Maraval in the fifth minute before Marvin Oliver equalised in the 20th. Olivierre restored Maraval’s advantage in the 71st but Oliver again levelled the scores in the 82nd.

Police jumped into third spot in the standings after a 1-0 victory against Media 21 FC at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, with Wendell Joseph on target in the 67th minute.

And Joe Public’s miserable start to the defence of their title continued as they drew 1-1 against WASA Clean & White at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. Brian Bayne’s 56th minute strike for WASA was not able to earn full points for his team due to Carlington Smith’s leveller ten minutes later.
