Bledman leads TT to World Games


DOUBLE gold medal winner at the recent Sagicor National Junior Championship Keston Bledman, will lead a strong Trinidad and Tobago team to the World Games in Morocco next month.


The Simplex sprinter will be joined by Shade St Louis who also won the 100 and 200 metres at the championship at the Hasely Crawford Stadium over the last weekend. Other members on the men’s team include Bledman’s Memphis team-mate Kieron Anthony, Kervin Morgan, Zwede Hewitt and Ade Alleyne-Forte.


The women’s team comprise Cadajah Spencer, Semoy Hackette, Janeil Bellile and Jurnell Francis.


Britaney St Louis, cousin of Shade, will undergo a fitness test before she can be included in the squad.


The team leaves July 8, and St Louis (B) is expected to undergo a fitness test three days before on July 5.


The championship will be held July 13-17 and the team is expected to return with a bag full of medals from the games. Third vice-president of the National Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA) Ephraim Serrette told Newsday the team was selected based on performances throughout the year.


He said selection was finalised after performances at the recent national championbship.


Serrette will also travel with the team as the manager, while Gerard Franklyn is the coach.


Lucresha Warner-Burns will be his assistant. Meanwhile, an eight-man junior team was also selected to take part in a forthcoming Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Juvenile Age Group Championship in Santo Domingo next month.


The team is Christian Benjamin, Adriol Prescod, Shakeel McKenna, Garvin Sandy, Dendra Daniel, Jeanelle Ovid, Cherece Denskin and Clera Barker.


Manager is Durley Lucas and coach is John Andalcio. Michelle Alleyne-Penny is assistant coach of the team which leaves on Wednesday for the games scheduled to begin July 8 and continue until July 9.
