Burke go for 4th Solo crown

REEZA BURKE will be aiming for his fourth successive men’s singles title as the 2005 Solo National Table Tennis Champ-ionship serves off today.

The nation’s leading table tennis players will be in action at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex, Mucurapo from 9 am with inter-team (men and women) matches, followed by doubles (men’s, women’s and mixed) at 3 pm and veterans two hours later.

The men’s, women’s and juniors singles competition will hold centre stage from 9 am tomorrow while the singles finals will be contested on Wednesday from 6 pm.

But the focus throughout the tournament will be on Burke, who will have to withstand the challenges of veterans Lionel Darceuil, Anthony Brown and the US-based Khaleel Asgarali to retain his title.

The women’s trophy is up for grabs due to the absence of three-time champ Aleena Edwards. Edwards’ mother Verna, Natalie Montes, Linda Partap-Boodhan, Shelly-Ann Parris and Marilyn Lewis are all in the reckoning for the crown.
