Ralph Maraj’s son to be cremated today
Taan Maraj, the 30-year-old son of former government minister Ralph Maraj, was described as a "financial wizard" by his aunt, former Speaker Occah Seapaul. "He was the brightest star in the world. I think that he was bordering on genius and a lot of people supported that view," she said. Seapaul, who also lost her only child, a daughter, some years ago, said it was difficult coping with the loss of her nephew. "It is (like) going through it (the death of another loved one) all over again," she said. However, she said the family would weather this second tragedy with strength, courage and faith and in the knowledge that Taan was not dead. "Taan has translated into another dimension. He is alive and will continue with his soul’s evolution," Seapaul said. Ralph Maraj was too distraught to say anything about his son’s death, save to give facts about the funeral arrangements. The funeral will begin at 11 pm from 12 Christian Street San Fernando and will proceed to Mosquito Creek for the cremation which will start at about 1.30 pm. Maraj’s former Cabinet colleague, Trade Minister Ken Valley said he empathised with him. "It is so sad. I was spellbound (when I heard it). I don’t know what to say. I really feel for him." Noting that only last week a young lawyer (Nadia Ashraph) committed suicide, Valley stated, "The stress of life is getting to our young people."
