SEA results Thursday

RESULTS of the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) 2005 exams will be released on Thursday.

The Ministry of Education in a statement yesterday, said the results would be issued to all principals of primary and secondary schools at 9 am on Thursday.

The results will be sent to the eight educational district offices at Couva, Sangre Grande, Port-of-Spain, Tunapuna, San Fernando, Princes Town and Tobago.

The SEA was written on March 17 at 547 centres by 19,786 of the 19,883 students who were registered. The exams lasted four and a quarter hours and comprised three components — Creative Writing, Language Arts and Mathematics.

Last year 20,814 students wrote the exams out of the 20,912 who were registered. One student, Reanna Gobin of Grant Memorial Presbyterian School attained full marks in all the subjects to place first in the 2004 exams. Three students had tied for second place and 13 for fifth place.

One hundred and thirty students occupied the top one hundred places, 43 of which were boys and 87 girls. Eleven thousand, seven hundred and seven students were placed at five- and seven-year schools, 7,966 were placed at three-year schools, 881 in private secondary schools and 260 at the Servol Life Centres. Forty-six students were placed at a pre-vocational centre.

Meanwhile, thousands of students in Standards One and Three will write the National Test today. The test will be in Language Arts and Mathematics. However, the results will not indicate a pass or fail, but rather be analysed to compare the performance of students in the various education districts. Last year’s test showed that overall, district performance was "average in nature."

Schools will close on July 8 and re-open on September 5, with teaching staff reporting to schools on September 1 and 2 to participate in preparatory exercises.
