Business brothers kidnapped in Grande

Two Sangre Grande brothers, a third generation businessmen are the nation’s latest kidnap victims.

Ronald Nath, fondly called Ronnie, 41, and his younger brother, Richard, 36, owners of Nath’s Furniture Store of Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande were on their way to their homes in Port-of-Spain when they were allegedly kidnapped at Valencia in the vicinity of the pillars.

According to reports around 5 pm the brothers left in their white Toyota Rava driven by Ronald after they closed their business. Their parents became suspicious when they did not receive any calls from either of the brothers, who would call them when they got to their respective homes.

At around 6.30 pm the parents made calls to their sons but got no answer. They continued calling until about 10 pm and got only voice mails. This reinforced the parents’ suspicion that something was definitely wrong.

Donald Nath, father of the brothers immediately informed the Anti- Kidnapping Squad at Port- of- Spain because he was previously warned by the police that his boys are being targetted and should get in contact with them immediately if this should happen. Sangre Grande police headed by Snr Supt Bastein responded in about 15 minutes.

Again Donald Nath later made calls to his sons but to no avail. Around 6 am yesterday he received a call from the kidnappers saying, "we have your two sons — Ronald and Richard," in a rough voice.

The worried father asked to speak to his sons and promised to handle all matters before giving the kidnappers his wife’s cell number, his home phone number and his personal cell number. Donald again demanded to talk to his two sons and said he is not going to discuss any thing until he gets to speak to his children.

The kidnapper told Nath he only had a message to give him. Nath told the kidnappers that they must not ill treat his children and should only talk business once he is sure his two sons are alive.

When Newsday contacted Snr Supt Bastein, head of the Eastern Division police he said that the officers are working around the clock to bring this investigation to an early end.
