‘An angel born too soon’

"AN ANGEL BORN TOO SOON," is the way friends and family members will remember Sharon Carrington.

Carrington, a messenger from the Office of the Prime Minister was laid to rest yesterday at the Tunapuna Cemetery, two weeks after she was shot dead in Laventille.

Carrington and her husband Martin Samuel were gunned down by an intruder as they slept at their Mc Shine Lands, Laventille home around 3 am on Father’s Day.

The funeral service was held at the Morvant Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) where more than 100 people gathered to say their final farewell. Jennifer Carrington, a cousin of Sharon delivered the eulogy recalling her cousin as a bright, bubbly child. Carrington said Sharon’s life was completed with the birth of her two children Marsha and Shermarkie, the two children she has left to mourn. "The selfish, senseless act took a link out of our clan," said Carrington.

Delivering words of comfort from the Office of the Prime Minister was a close colleague, Hazel Guy who spoke highly of Carrington. Guy said staff members were deeply surprised and saddened by her sudden demise, describing her as an amiable, kind and loving person. Guy said Carrington was supposed to take her vacation this year, then changed her mind saying she would take it next year instead.

Carrington’s sister Patricia read a poem for her late sister, sending a warning to the intruder who took her life. "To the man who acted out of callousness, Sharon Carrington and all the victims of crime, God will have his vengeance."

Also present at the funeral were Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Sandra Marchack and a colleague Rosemary Johnson.

The sermon was delivered by Pastor Samuel Lowe.
