TT ready for junior golf series
SHANE CASTELLOE, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s top golfers will lead a 12-strong contingent to the 18th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship in the Dominican Republic from July 5 to July 7. And the talented Diana Torry will head the women contingent which will also feature Tracey Clarke and Victoria Seenath in the 18 and Under Division. Sponsors Republic Bank reconfirmed their support for the lads, yesterday as manager corporate communications Anna-Maria Garcia-Brooks told a news conference of her company’s partnership with TT golf. Castelloe who have won titles at regional competition on numerous occasions, will have Simon Merry, Robert Llanos and reserve Jonathan Low in his team. At the unveiling of the team which will represent this country at the competition, Castelloe told the gathering he was ready and prepared for any challenges which come his way. He said his team has as good a chance as any in the tournament and should hopefully return with a bag full of trophies. Not surprisingly, Castelloe is one of six players who have also secured places on the senior team for a number of coming competitions- including the Copa Championships in Mexico later this year. Others are Clarke, Torry, Merry, Martin De Gannes, Ben Martin. They were also handed tokens for their achievements to date as they prepare to test their mettle against the best in the region, come next week. United States based Timothy Martin, Joshua Galt and reserve Blaine Winford will also carry a strong challenge for Trinidad and Tobago in the 12 and Under age bracket, while the Boys 15 and Under also promises good returns with Martin, Kyle Knaggs, Glen Charlett and reserve Jake Maingot.
