WIPA want all matters settled by August
THE West Indies Players Association are calling on the West Indies Cricket Board to complete all matters for mediation and arbitration by August 31. This call came from WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine, in response to a letter from WICB chief executive officer Roger Brathwaite on Tuesday. He said it was his association’s view that there was substantial agreement on the way forward. But Ramnarine pointed out, it was unfortunate that the matter of the level of sponsorship fees has not been finalised since Brathwaite could not be contacted. In a proposal sent by WIPA to WICB chief financial officer Barry Thomas which read: "As I indicated to you, time is of the essence for all parties regarding this Sri Lanka tour and while WIPA is not adverse to the idea of a percentage of the total sponsorship sum over the duration of the sponsorship agreement, what is required for us to be able to make that decision is information we have requested since July 2004 - namely a signed copy of the sponsorship agreement for confirmation of sponsorship figures." It was pointed out that the figures quoted on June 25 are very different from the unsigned copy of the contract given to WIPA from what the WICB president Teddy Griffith "in his address to the Caribbean people." Ramnarine said the figures have changed from 23 million to 20 million to 18.75 million to now 16.75.
