Midsummer Classic to land at Crown Point

WOULD the CLICO Midsummer Classic and the $90,000 winner’s prize land at Crown Point? Or will the 1900 metres race, second jewel in the local triple crown wing away with Flying Millie? There is nothing in this race to turn turfites’ head from these two principles, since they have continually beaten the five other contenders out of sight previously. But the manner in which the son of Freshly Squeezed/Bands O’Gold disposed of Flying Millie last time out, suggests he will land the top prize and continue the journey to the triple crown and the $250,000 bonus, should he win the Royal Oak Derby.

There are many exciting races on paper to whet the appetite of turfites at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, today apart from the day’s feature. On the programme is the CLICO Art Calendar Super Sprint over 1100 metres, a race which will determine the sprint champion of the local turf. Getdjobdone has done just that in his three races to date which he has won leaving him unbeaten. But this theee-year-old Junior Sammy-owned colt will get a real test of his mettle from fleet-footed quartet Man Of Class, Miss Lover Lover, Rebel Music and Fortunate Flag. And still there is Punto A Punto and Movietowne Magic holding the engagement in what promises to be a scorcher.

The day opens with the 1350 metres CLICO Plant A Tree race for three-year-old and over imported maidens. This field has been depleted with the withdrawal of Miss Julie and Salute The Colours leaving just four runners to face the starter. Still for all this, however, speedy Ascot Kate, Blue Riegn, newcomer Daylight Reprized and Florida Fame are the four to line up and could end in a thrilling finish. And there are other thrilling races in the middle of the programme which will test turfites skill in finding the winners. Post time for the opener is 12.15 pm.
