Cricinfo story surprises Ganga
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: West Indies "A" team manager Lyndel Wright says captain Daren Ganga has distanced himself from comments posted on noted cricket website Cricinfo.com, alleging that members of the "A" team had been pressured into signing West Indies playing contracts. In a report on Friday, Cricinfo.com quoted Ganga as saying that members of the "A" team had been pressured into signing senior team match/tour contracts for the Sri Lanka series after being approached individually. Reports had also suggested that manager of the senior West Indies team, Tony Howard had been sent to Sri Lanka with the view of getting players to sign the contracts. "I am not aware of any player being pressured or of Mr. Ganga having said that," Wright said. "As a matter of fact, I spoke to him (Ganga) and he was rather surprised that anybody could have written something like that about him, alleging that there was pressure to have the players sign. He added: "I at no time was in attendance at any meeting which was held between the players and Mr. Tony Howard." The WICB on Friday night categorically denied that "any of its members or officers have either threatened or pressured any player as alleged in newspaper and website articles." "Any such behaviour by any member or officer of the Board would constitute a clear breach of WICB policy. In this regard the Board has asked the manager of the West Indies ‘A’ team in Sri Lanka, Mr. Lyndel Wright, for a full report with respect to an article attributing comments to the captain of the team, Daren Ganga," the WICB said in a release. Wright said in the interview on Saturday that he expected to forward his report to the Board later the same day.
