Business says Govt, Opposition unity long overdue

THE LOCAL business community yesterday expressed cautious optimism about a newfound display of unity between Government and the Opposition about dealing with crime in Trinidad and Tobago. In a statement yesterday, the Organisations Representative of the Private Sector in TT, said it welcomed news that Government and Opposition senators cooperated on Wednesday to pass amendments to legislation that was aimed at improving the administration of justice in TT.

The group declared: “This is a long overdue example from the highest halls of power, which we hope may be the beginning of an important new era in local politics. This type of cooperation and engagement in constructive discussion is what is needed on a continuous basis, both in the Senate and the House of Represen-tatives, for continued nation-building, economic development and the reprieve of the majority of the citizens of TT from the scourge of crime.”
