Legal Affairs updates consumer laws

THE MINISTRY of Legal and Consumer Affairs yesterday announced that it will be hosting a series of public consultations from July to September on the Green Paper on Consumer Protection in the Information Age which was laid in the Senate last month. In a statement, the Ministry said the consultations were necessary given the fact that the marketplace has changed rapidly over the last 20 years.

“These gaps serve to highlight the need for immediate reforms to the framework of consumer laws in TT,” the Ministry said. The Ministry said with the benefit of invaluable feedback from the population, Government will be able to proceed with immediately drafting the necessary legislative reforms and tabling the legislation in Parliament in 2006. A copy of the Green Paper was published in this weekend’s Sunday newspapers.
