No Trinis affected by second London bombing

NO TRINIDAD and Tobago nationals were killed or injured in a series of explosions, the second in the space of two weeks, which disrupted London’s transportation yesterday.

According to reports from the British Metropolitan Police yesterday, no one was injured and it was too early to make any connection between yesterday’s incident and the events of July 7.

A terrorist group with links to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda terrorist network claimed responsibility for the July 7 bombings.

When Newsday contacted TT’s High Commission in London around 1 pm, top officials said while there was tension in London shortly after the explosions occurred, the authorities moved quickly to ensure normalcy was returned to the city in the shortest possible time. The officials added that up to late yesterday evening in London, the underground train service was suspended, but buses were still operating.

One official said the high commission was closed soon after word of the explosions was received and arrangements were made for the staff to get to their homes. He added that the situation in London was not as serious as it was two weeks ago and the high commission will be open for business today.

The official said British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s call for citizens to remain calm did a lot to assist in maintaining order in London.
