Four cops suspended over missing guns

FOUR cops, three in Tunapuna and one in St James, were issued suspension papers. According to reports, the three officers in Tunapuna, an inspector, a female sergeant and a constable, were issued their suspension papers earlier yesterday, while the corporal attached to the St James Police Station was issued his papers three days ago.

The suspensions, which were issued by the Police Commissioner Trevor Paul, were in relation to two guns that disappeared from the Tunapuna Police Station three weeks ago, while the other suspension is in relation to a gun that went missing at the St James Police Station one month ago and turned up in the murder of Uttamedo Maharaj, 25, on June 30 in Palo Seco. Efforts to contact Paul were futile, but senior sources confirmed the suspensions and that there was an ongoing investigation in both matters.
