Cocaine in her belly

A 23-year-old woman of Wharton Street, Laventille, will appear in a Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with possession of 270 grammes of cocaine. The woman was held at Piarco International Airport last Sunday as she was about to board BW 900 for London. According to reports, the woman was seen acting in a suspicious manner and was approached by members of the Organised Crime and Narcotics Unit. She was suspected of swallowing cocaine, and was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she excreted the drugs during the past five days. The woman was charged after her release yesterday.

In another matter, Arnold Sookoo, of Bates Trace, St Augustine, appeared before an Arima magistrate yesterday charged with possession of 2.5 kilos of cocaine. It is alleged that Sookoo was about to board BW 900 to London on Thursday, when he was approached and his luggage searched. The drugs, valued at $1 million, were reportedly found. Sookoo was arrested and charged. He appeared before Magistrate Deborah Quintyne yesterday and bail was denied. He will reappear in court on July 28.
