TT’s Wilson in U-13 squash final

KALE WILSON advanced to the Boys Under-13 finals of the CLICO Junior Caribbean Squash Championship when he defeated Andrez Bascombe of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) at the Cascadia Hotel Courts yesterday.

He triumphed over his rival in straight sets 9-0, 9-1, 9-0 to advance to the final.

And countryman Ryan Bayne got the better of his opponent, also in three sets in the semi-finals of the Plate.

Kevin Ross rebounded from defeat the day before to whip Jamaica’s Jordan Schwier 9-0, 9-0, 9-2 in the Plate semi-final in the Boys Under-15 category.

His victory was followed by a win for Justin Gomes in the Plate semi-final of the Boys Under-17 Division.

Gomes got the better of Jamaica’s Bruce Burrowes in a four-setter 7-9, 9-4, 9-5, 9-3.

However the host team struggled in the semi-final of the Classic Plate competition, as TT’s Adrian Dyett went down to Joe Chapman of the OECS in three sets, in the Boys Under-17s.

Among the Girls Under-19s semi-final Plate, Nakita Poon King was in winners row yesterday when she whipped Guyana’s Kimberly Jeffrey in three sets 9-6, 9-5, 9-5 in a keenly contested match.

Trinidad and Tobago were also expecting wins for Josh Pinard in the Boys Under-17s and Joanna Scoon in later matches last night.

Meanwhile, Pinard made light work of his team-mate Chapman in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Pinard won in three sets 9-2, 9-1, 9-0 a result that set him off on the right footing for the championship.
