‘Calypso Girls’ 94% accurate but lose

Goal-shoot Candace Nelson was 93 per cent accurate, scoring 26 goals from 28 attempts, and goal-attack Afeisha Noel shot at an even better accuracy rate 95 per cent with 19 goals from 20.

The junior "Calypso Girls" netballers trailed the Fijians who held a five-goal lead at the end of the first quarter which ended 13-8.

The Trinidadians managed to trim the lead to three goals at the half-time interval 23-20.

Fiji maintained the three-goal advantage at the end of the third period which ended 36-33 and all the fight left the Trinidadians as they were outscored 14-12 in the final stanza.

The Trinidad and Tobago girls scored their goals from 48 attempts, while Fiji had 63 attempts for their 50 goals.

Holly-Ann Duncan who left as team skipper played her first game but was substituted in the third quarter.

The "Calypso Girls" had 17 penalties in a game which produced 32 infringements, and netted 15 (94 per cent), while Fiji scored 10 of 15 penalties (70 per cent).

Defeat for the junior "Calypso Girls" netballers sent them toppling into the group to play off for 17th to 20th position along with neighbours Barbados.

The youthful "Calypso Girls" netballers were playing powerful and fourth ranked and unbeaten England last night in their final first round game.
