Sellier pedals double gold in Gold Cup
NATIONAL junior cyclist Christopher Sellier took two gold medals on the opening day of the Junior Caribbean Cycling Gold Cup, at Skinner’s Park, San Fernando, yesterday. The inaugural competition began yesterday, with three days of track racing action, concluding tomorrow, while the road races will take place from Saturday until Monday. Sellier cruised to victory in the 500-metre individual time trials in 29.27 seconds, with local rider Shivon Edwards next in 30.78 and Barbados’ Simon Clarke third in 30.86. And Sellier was the lone entrant in the 200m individual match sprint, covering the distance in 12 seconds flat. Kriston Yearwood was another double-winner on the day. In the mitymites 500m individual time trials, Yearwood, with a time of 34.79 seconds, defeated fellow TT riders Anthony Sellier 36.12 and Jason Francis 38.48 while, in the 200m flying match sprint, Yearwood got the better of Sellier and Francis. Local boy Scott Jagasar claimed the juveniles 500m individual time trial in 32.51, followed by Ziff John of Suriname 32.54 and TT’s Philemon Thomas 33.10. And, in the 200m flying match sprint, Jagasar whipped countryman Richard Vasquez in one semi while John got past Thomas in the other. Trevor Commissiong and Barbadian Kevin Downie will battle today in the tinymites 200m flying match sprint qualifications, after Commissiong defeated fellow local pedallist Alexander Gibbon in one semifinal and Downie beat Suriname’s Moses Rickets in the other. Earlier on the day, Commissiong won the tinymites 500m individual time trial in 30.78 seconds, followed by Downie 31.67 and Rickets 33.85. Action continues today from 9 am, at Skinner’s Park.
