Tobago businessman abducted, robbed

A Tobago businessman was abducted from his home at Pumpmill, Scarborough early yesterday morning by two masked men and subsequently robbed of approximately $25,000. According to reports, around 2 am yesterday, John Phillips, owner of Phillips Fabric Centre, was accosted by two masked men who entered his home and demanded money. When he refused, he was dealt several blows about the body and his bank card and PIN number demanded.


Phillips was said to have handed over the card to the men with a wrong PIN number. The men then tied his hands, feet and mouth and left him in the house while they went to unsuccessfully withdraw the cash. They returned and used his car to take him to his business place at Hamilton Street, Upper Scarbor-ough where they stole a cash register and cash amounting to approximately $25,000. The men escaped on foot. Phillips was found by security personnel around 5 am and was taken to the Scarborough Hospital where he remains warded.
