Man’s throat slit in smash-up

A CEDROS man had his throat slit in a vehicular collision in La Romaine yesterday morning. The man and five other persons injured in the accident were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH). Police reports indicated that Indar Rampersad, of Coromandel Village, received a cut to his throat from the glass of the van’s windscreen in which he was travelling. The van  smashed into a car along the South Trunk Road. Reports stated that around 12.30 am Rampersad and Ramnarine Pattan, of South Central, Point Fortin, were passengers in the Kia van driven by Errol Soogrim, of Point Fortin, attempting to turn onto the M2 Ring Road, La Romaine.


However, when Soogrim was negotiating the turn, he collided with a Hyundai Accent driven by Rodney Effelene, 35, of Diego Martin, which was heading west along the South Trunk Road. Also in the car were Garvin Bastien, 25, of George Street, Port-of-Spain, and Anicia Cyrus, 22, of Techier Village, Point Fortin. All six persons were taken to the SFGH by the Emergency Health Services. Pattan and the others injured were treated at hospital and discharged. PC Sieunarine of the San Fernando Traffic Branch is continuing investigations.
