Jamaica win 12-0, Bahamas 16-1 in CFU

JAMAICA benefited from a lacklustre effort from St Vincent at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, to register a 12-0 annihilation in Group B of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Youth Cup (Under-15 tournament) yesterday.

But Bahamas also feasted on the goal-frenzy at Tunapuna with a 16-1 rout of the British Virgin Islands.

Duran Mitchell (10th, 36th, 48th and 51st) and Shem Moss (60th, 67th, 73rd and 89th) both netted beaver-tricks, with Nolan Cancino notching a hat-trick (second, 59th and 74th), Michael Bethel (fourth and 13th) and Craig Smith (19th and 90th) two apiece, and Jared Higgs (56th) one. BVI captain Clayton McOgg was on target for his beleaguered outfit in the 61st. The Jamaicans got five goals from Christopher Waugh (36th, 37th, 38th, 58th and 60th) while Jefferey Johnson added a pair (86th and 88th) with one apiece from John Ross (17th), Romario Camp-bell (33rd), Adrian Christian (39th), Ateba Morgan (42nd) and Denver Orgill (43rd).

In Group D, Martinique also got their campaign on a winning note with a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Suriname, in the first of a doubleheader at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

Donovan Chobin gave Suriname a second minute lead before Jeremy Mongis equalised in the 21st, but Donovan Renfurm put the Dutch-speaking nation back in front in the 61st. The lead was short-lived, as the Martiniquans responded with three goals in the space of six minutes, from Emmanuel Rivierre (68th and 74th) and Jaetan Sidney (71st).

Guyana needed a 65th minute equaliser from Kevin Beaton to draw 1-1 against Puerto Rico at the Pointe-a-Pierre venue, after Hector Ramos had put the Puerto Ricans in front in the 37th.

At the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, guest team Guatemala cruised past Antigua/Barbuda 3-1 in Group A with strikes from Angelo Padilla (fifth), David Aroche (47th) and Samuel Bats (70th), with captain Joel Thomas netting Antigua’s consolation in injury time.

In the other match of the doubleheader, Raymbert Bikker netted a 72nd minute freekick as Aruba battled to a 1-1 draw against the US Virgin Islands, after Semaj Hodge put USVI in front after 24 minutes.

Canada, the other invited team for the tournament, was expected to arrive here last night after flight problems.
