Chaguanas flood victims need help

CHAGUANAS Member of Parliament Manohar Ramsaran has called on Prime Minister Patrick Manning to immediately address the problems plaguing flood victims in his constituency. In a letter to Manning yesterday, Ramsaran stated that he had received a number of complaints from residents of Caroni Village, Frederick Settle-ment, Bejucal and other residents affected in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Emily. Ramsaran stated that based on surveys conducted in those areas, residents received a poor response from ministries and State agencies.

In his letter, the Chaguanas MP stated: “The situation warrants immediate action by the State.” Ramsaran said results of the survey on some 509 homes visited revealed that State agencies offered no assistance. “Please, Prime Minister, respond immediately to the victims of this national disaster Emily in the constituency of Chaguanas,” MP Ramsaran stated. Ramsaran was expected to tour the flood-prone areas of Caroni, La Paille and Frederick Settle-ment last Thursday.
