Cordner nets seven in football rout
STRIKER Kennya Cordner netted seven goals as Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 women’s football team began the first round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament with a 11-0 thrashing of Grenada. Captain Aveann Douglas added three for the TT lasses while American-born striker Stephanie De Sousa notched the other at the Mindoo Phillip Ground, Castries, St Lucia, on Wednesday. The pint-sized Cordner started the goal spree with a fourth minute strike, with Douglas opening her account four minutes later. Cordner took over with three goals in the space of five minutes (20th, 21st and 24th) before Douglas gave TT a 6-0 half-time cushion in the 37th. De Sousa found the back of the net in the 51st while Cordner struck in the 57th and Douglas completed her hat-trick in the 59th. And Cordner will complete the rout with items in the 73rd and 74th minutes. In the other match of the double-header, the hosts cruised past St Vincent 4-1, following a goalless first half. The Vincentian girls who, like their Under-15 and senior teams, are coached by the maverick Zoran Vranes, will face TT from 5 pm today followed by St Lucia and Grenada at 7 pm.
