May: Gordon will bring settlement

CHIEF Executive Officer of the Federation of Inter-national Crick-eters’ Association Tim May is batting on the West Indies Players’ Association team.

Commenting on the current impasse between the West Indies Cricket Board and WIPA, May said he foresaw the on-going dispute between the two agencies being resolved in the short term.

He said he supported the player’s position on the matter, because "existing terms and conditions on the table, were simply unacceptable and represented terms that no player association could accept."

Australian May noted the dispute which has led to top players Brian Lara, Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan being unavailable for selection, in essence surrounds the commercial use of player attributes and restrictions the WICB seek to impose on players’ personal endorsement ability.

But May believes the recent change in the WICB presidency, with Ken Gordon taking over from Teddy Griffith, "will have a change a positive effect upon the stalemate, and that the mood of negotiation would change from impasse to one where all parties would work together to a final solution that would satisfy all parties."

He said: "At present the interests of all of the key parties are not being served. Whether it be WICB, the players, the sponsor, the West Indies’ cricketing public or world cricket, all parties are suffering as a result of this dispute."

May pointed out: "After discussions with key personnel from both sides of the dispute, I am confident that the mood of the negotiations will be conducted with a more positive and respectful manner and a solution will be brokered in the short-term."
