Women cricketers beat B’dos
TRINIDAD and Tobago women cricketers made an impressive start in the West Indies Women Cricket Federation League opening round fixture when they trounced Barbados by eight wickets at the Stubbs ground in St Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday. Barbados won the toss and batted, but they succumbed to the medium pace bowling of vice-captain Envis Williams who took three wickets for for seven runs and Jade Chadee who got two for 18 and were routed for 72 off 45.5 overs. Kyusona Knight scored an unbeaten 23, but it was extras which topscored with 28, including 26 wides. Newcomer Maurisa Aquillera, who opened the batting with Brenda Solozano-Rodney had an unbeaten 29 to rally TT to 73 for two wickets and their convincing victory. Trinidad and Tobago also benefited from 31 extras including 25 wides. Marjorie Thomas, manageress of the TT team, said that she was "comfortable with the victory." "We can only grow from strength to strength. It was not what I want from the bowlers, too many wides given away. It is one of the areas we have to improve on. "And I know that the players will strive to overcome these mistakes. Everybody is excited with the victory and this well help to boost the morale of the team." TT will play Guyana today in their second match.
