Under-20s maul St Lucia girls 18-0

TRINIDAD and Tobago Under-20 women footballers qualified for the final leg of the CFU leg of CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament with an emphatic 18-0 win over host St Lucia at the Mindoo Phillip Park on Sunday.

On a slushy ground TT needed only a draw against the previously unbeaten St Lucia to advance to next stage of the qualifiers.

But in front of a packed audience at the Mindoo Phillip Park the TT girls led by now prolific striker Kennya Cordner who scored four in the first half, the female Warriors kept a steady onslaught to end the first half with a 10-0 lead.

Doubles from Stephanie DeSousa and skipper Aveann Douglas, one from midfielder Janine Francois and an own goal were the other scorers in the first half.

Despite some anxious moments when St Lucia forced a corner in the second half, TT’s pattern of dominance and goalscoring continued.
