TT women crush Guyana

TRINIDAD and Tobago women cricketers maintained their unbeaten streak when they scored a convincing six-wicket victory over Guyana in their West Indies Women Cricket Federation League third round match played at the Arnos Vale I ground yesterday.

Now today they will clash with defending champions St Vincent and the Grenadines in the title decider at the same venue.

St Vincent and the Grenadines also maintained their unbeaten run with victory over Barbados at the Arnos Vale II ground yesterday.

The winners of today’s encounter will be declared the 2005 WIWCF League champion.

TT last won both the league and knockout titles in 2003 in Grenada and skipper Stephanie Power and her teammates will have to produce their best form to turn the tables on SVG who are enjoying home advantage.

Inclement weather conditions have affected all the matches, with the rain intervening to put a stoppage to play with TT at 70 for four wickets after 21 overs, when chasing 94 for victory off 50 overs after Guyana were dismissed for 93 off 48 overs, with extras again playing a significant part to that total with 31 including 27 wides.

Guyana’s captain Abena Parker topscored with 15 and was supported by opener June Ogle 10 and Anabelle Lewis 11.

The Guyanese were well placed at 64 for four but West Indies players Envis Williams (10-3-14-2) and Anisa Mohammed (10-5-18-2) combined to smash their hopes of a bigger score.

Jade Chadee also produced a telling spell which ended (7-1-14-2) despite conceding seven wides.

The Guyanese did themselves no favours with three being run out, Lewis, Sabrina Munroe (0) and Troy Holder-Marshall (0).

TT reached 66 for four in the 18th over when the first shower stalled play.

On resumption, only three more overs were possible while TT added four runs, when another heavy downpour prevented any further play.

Opener Brenda Solozano-Rodney remained unbeaten on 26 and shared a 37-run fourth wicket partnership with Jade Chadee 10.
