Hector Sam fractures leg

LONDON: Trinidad and Tobago striker Hector Sam could be out of action for the remainder of the year, his English League One Port Vale football club has reported.

The 26-year-old suffered a fractured leg one week ago but the injury has failed to respond to treatment and his recovery period is now expected to take three to four months.

"We’ve had bad news on Hector Sam. He is now going to be out for three to four months," Port Vale manager, Martin Foyle revealed.

"The fractures have still not settled and is out of place so he has got to have that pinned which will keep him out for a lot longer than we had initially expected."

He added: "It’s a big blow for me and a big blow for the lad himself — he was desperate to prove himself and it’s a big setback."

Foyle noted however there were several players returning from injury whom he hoped would compensate for Sam’s absence.

Sam recently signed for Port Vale after spending several seasons at Welsh club Wrexham before they were demoted to League Two last season.

The injury to Sam also caused him to miss Trinidad and Tobago’s CONCACAF World Cup final round qualifier against Guatemala scheduled for today.
