Hillview upset ‘Green Machine’
HILLVIEW pulled off the first upset of the 2005 British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) with a 3-2 win over defending East Zone and national Big 5 champs St Augustine yesterday. The “Green Machine” fans who turned up on their home ground went home dejected as the Hillview lads responded dramatically from their 3-0 whipping by San Juan in the opening match of the season. San Juan remained atop the Zone with their second successive win, 2-1 over debutants Malabar at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.
The “Dial Dynamos” Arima, who were awarded a 3-0 default win over St George’s on Thursday, fell back to earth when they were beaten 2-0 by the ‘Blue Thunder’ El Dorado at the El Do Ground in Tunapuna. Fatima recorded the most lopsided win of the season thus far, hammering Tranquillity 6-0 at the Fatima College Ground, in yesterday’s lone North Zone matchup. Princes Town jumped to the top of the South Zone with a 2-0 whipping of Mayaro at the Mayaro Recreation Ground yesterday. In another South fixture, Vessigny edged Fyzabad 1-0 in the second match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on Friday. Action continues tomorrow with a full slate of matches in the North and South Zones.
