Fatima win two-in-a-row

FATIMA jumped to the top of the North Zone after a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Mucurapo, at the Fatima Ground, as the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) continued yesterday.

Mucurapo held a 1-0 lead before Trinidad and Tobago Under-15 defender Sheldon Bateau levelled the scores in the 74th minute.

While Mucurapo tried to regain their composure, national Under-17 defender Marvin James found the back of the net for Fatima in the 78th as they sealed their second straight victory of the 2005 season.

The highly-fancied "Westmoorings Tigers" of St Anthony’s are yet to record a win thus far, after they were held to a 1-1 at home by Malick.

Tranquillity, tipped by many as the Zone’s whipping boys, suffered another crushing defeat, this time by a 4-0 margin to St Mary’s at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

National Under-17 midfielder Qian Grovesnor notched a pair for the Saints.

In the South Zone, last year’s Zonal title-holders Naparima registered their first win of the season; 2-0 over Moruga at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

National Under-17 captain Javed Mohammed and Marvin Knights were the goal-getters for Naps. Meanwhile, the focus today will shift to the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet as the Tobago Zone opens with a double-header — from 3 pm Roxborough meets Elizabeth while two hours later, 2004 Zonal champs Signal Hill faces Scarborough.
