San Juan maul St George’s 13-0

SAN JUAN proved their early-season form is no fluke by inflicting a 13-0 hammering of St George’s in the East Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday.

Spurred on by a boisterious crowd at Bourg Mulatresse, the San Juan lads were rewarded with seven goals from Jonathan Romain, two from Kadeem Gibbs and one apiece from Berhane Beckles, Dwayne Gilbert, Elijah Manners and Anthony Guppy.

Jeffrey Davis netted twice, while national Under-17 midfielder Shastri Spencer and Emmanuel Alexander added one each to guide the "Green Machine" St Augustine to a 4-0 triumph over Malabar at St Augustine. And "Blue Thunder" El Dorado strolled past Hillview 2-0 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.

Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 striker Matthew Bartholomew notched a double as St Benedict’s cruised past Moruga 2-0 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Naparima maintained their lead in the North Zone after a 1-1 draw away to Princes Town while Mayaro were held to a goalless draw at home by Vessigny.

Fatima stayed atop the table in the North Zone following a 3-0 whipping of St Mary’s at the Fatima Ground, while QRC earned their second successive win, 3-1 over Tranquility, at the QRC Ground.

But Mucurapo suffered their second straight defeat, going down 1-0 to Malick at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

In related news, SSFL president Ewing Davis remained tight-lipped over the issue concerning the Tobago Zone, following an emergency meeting with Zonal officials yesterday.

The Zone failed to start on Tuesday — a double-header was carded for the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet — and no reason was given for the cancellation of matches.

No matches are on the schedule today but the Central Zone kicks off tomorrow, from 4 pm, with the perennial champs Presentation meeting Carapichaima at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
