Fatima make it five in a row


FATIMA maintained their 100-percent record in the North Zone after a convincing 3-0 victory over the "Westmoorings Tigers" St Anthony’s in the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday.


Makesi Lewis silenced the home-crowd at Westmoorings with a 23rd minute strike, while Kyron Murrain added two, in the 33rd and 90th minutes, as St Anthony’s continue to struggle in their quest for their third Zonal title in four years.


QRC advanced to second place after a 1-1 draw against arch-rivals St Mary’s at the QRC Ground while defending champs Mucurapo strolled past Tranquility 5-1 at the Fatima Ground.


El Dorado jumped to the top of the East Zone with a 13-0 drubbing of St George’s at the El Dorado Ground.


Dwight Critchlow, Jamal Gay and Kendall Alleyne each registered hat-tricks for the "Blue Thunder," while captain Keston Henry and Kenata Morris added two apiece.


2004 Zonal winners St Augustine whipped "Dial Dynamos" Arima 5-1, with captain and national Under-17 midfielder Shastri Spencer scoring twice for the "Green Machine," while Daniel Joseph, Joel Williams and an own goal compounded Arima’s misery.


And debutants Malabar got their first win of the season, whipping Hillview 3-1 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.


In the South Zone, Naparima stayed ahead of the pack after a 1-1 draw against Vessigny in the first match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, with Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 captain Javed Mohammed opening the scoring for Naps in the 35th minute, before Seon Thomas equalised for the hosts in the 55th.


In the other match at Marabella, St Benedict’s cruised to a 2-0 win over Fyzabad, with items from Michard Edwards and Kevin Francis, while Princes Town were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Moruga. Chaguanas moved to the top spot in the Central Zone following a 6-0 hammering of Union Claxton Bay at the Chaguanas Ground while Carapichaima got their season on a winning note, 5-0 against Tabaquite at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.


And perennial champs Presentation began the defence of their title with a 3-0 win at home versus Marabella with strikes from Trent Lougheed, Marvin Manswell and Jesse De Four.


Action resumes on Friday in all five zones, including in the sister isle Tobago, which will get going after a 10-day delay.
