Couva Scotiabank honour Ramdin


YOUNG CLICO Preysal Sports Club wicket-keeper, Denesh Ramdin, recently called for the upcoming Australian Tour was honoured by the Couva Branch of Scotiabank on Wednesday evening "for his meteoric rise to regional cricket."


Ramdin, who led the last West Indies Under-19 Team in the world tournament in Bangladesh, was told by the Mananger of the Couva Branch, Azam Khan:


"Go and perform at your very best, and be well disciplined and focused, for the West Indies team and you will surely remain on the side for a long time."


"Whatever you do, always remember that your community, your country, and the West Indies as a whole are solidly behind you, as we are all convinced that you have the potential for leadership, as you have admirably demonstrated in the past," Khan said.


Ramdin, who made 56 runs in his Test debut aganst Sri Lanka was advised that he must not only concentrate on setting records as a wicket-keeper, but also pay attention to improving his batting performances. "So that when the time comes for West Indies selection, your name will be high on the list," Khan said. He said that Scotiabank was involved in West Indies cricket as the board’s bankers and by organising the Kiddy Cricket programme.


"And the fact that we are honouring you today is evidence that you have made all of us proud by the way you have been conducting yourself at such a high level. You are indeed a role model to younger players," Khan said.


Manick Debideen, a senior coach to CLICO Presyal Sports Club said that Ramdin has always displayed a high degree of interest and commitment to the game and by being selected on the West Indies senior team at 19 years old, meant that his aspirations were coming into fruition. "Without a doubt this tells us in clear unmistakable terms that you have very far to go in international sports," Debideen said. In his reply Ramdin thanked Scotibank for staging the appreciation function and promised to do everything possible not to let his fans down.
