Some answers, please

THE EDITOR: A full two months after the President of the Public Service Association of Trinidad and Tobago delivered her Labour Day speech at the 2005 Labour Day celebrations at Fyzabad, the population was being bombarded by calls for her to retract certain parts of that statement, which they considered to be racist.

I abhor racism, and I am definitely not a sympathiser of anyone promoting racial diatribe in Trinidad and Tobago, but I remember that at a previous PSA rally held in Port-of-Spain, a call was made for a certain official to resign because the PSA suggested that he may have been involved in some "Insider Trading" (a la Martha Stewart) favouring members of his family. At that time, there was a deafening silence except that the Minister promised to take court action etc. Before we rush to condemn and brand the PSA President as racist, we need to get answers to the fundamental question raised by the PSA on the question of "Conflict of Interest" on the part of government officials.
