San Juan shut down ‘Green Machine’
SAN JUAN proved their superiority over the rest in the East Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League by virtue of a 6-1 mauling of defending champs St Augustine yesterday. Spurred on by an energetic crowd at Bourg Mulatresse, San Juan got a hat-trick from Anthony Guppy, while Kerry Daniel, Elijah Manners and Jonathan Romain chipped in with one each as San Juan registered their sixth win in as many matches. Captain Shastri Spen-cer got the only goal in a demoralising loss for the "Green Machine". The "Dial Dynamos" Arima suffered their fifth successive loss, this time by a 3-1 margin against Hillview at the Arima Municipal Stadium. Carlyle Mitchell, Keron Lambert and Hershel Williams were the goal-getters for Hillview. Up to press time, no score was available be-tween St George’s and Malabar at the St George’s Ground, Bara-taria. Carapichaima leapt to first place in the Central Zone with a 10-0 battering of Union Claxton Bay at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, while Marabella hammered hosts Chaguanas 9-2. And Presentation Chaguanas thrashed hosts Tabaquite 6-0 with a beaver-trick from Dion Lewis and one each from Marvin Manswell and Dwayne Nicome. With Naparima on a bye, Vessigny took the opportunity to claim top spot in the South Zone following a 4-1 triumph away to Moruga. Akeem Collins notched a pair, in the 18th and 50th minutes, while Kyle Blackman (23rd) and Khalid Commissiong (27th) added one apiece for the victors, while Jesse Edwards (85th) got a late consolation for the hosts. Princes Town is in third following a similar 4-1 victory at home to cellar-placed Fyzabad, with a pair from Kirlan Gomez (68th and 81st), and one each from Keno Narcis (63rd) and Sato Eriche (75th), while Mayaro earned a hard-fought 4-3 win over St Benedict’s at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Mucurapo moved to second spot in the North Zone following a 5-2 triumph over St Mary’s at the CIC Ground, St Clair while QRC were held to a goalless draw at home to St Anthony’s.
